Partners in Healing (PIH) is an integrative medicine practice dedicated to nurturing the healer within. I combine my knowledge of family practice with my integrative medicine fellowship training to provide an approach to health care that utilizes the best of safe and effective therapeutic modalities. This healing-oriented medicine excels in prevention and wellness care, and provides gentle help for many chronic and acute health issues. PIH accounts for the whole person--body, mind and spirit.

Profile and Credentials

Ann is a board certified family physician with special interests in integrative medicine, women's health, prevention, and health education. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, and completed her residency in Family and Community Medicine at The Pennsylvania State University, Milton Hershey Medical Center. The following year she pursued fellowship training in Women's Health.

During fifteen years of primary care practice, Ann employed the concepts of holistic and facilitated healing, but she often felt unable to tap the potential of other safe and effective non-conventional therapeutic modalities. To address her dream of a better way for her patients, and for herself, Ann completed training as a member of the inaugural class of the University of Arizona's Associate Fellowship in Integrative Medicine. Designed by Andrew Weil, MD and his colleagues, the Associate Fellowship is an innovative program that provides for the study of integrative medicine in a combined distance-learning and on-site format. She is thrilled to help bring this vision of collaborative, patient-centered health care to this region. Ann resides in Delmar, New York with her husband and two daughters.

Philosophy and Comments

Partners in Healing is a practice of head, hand and heart. My training, career and life experiences have fostered an intelligent healing-oriented practice rooted in compassion.

Integrative medicine combines the best of conventional Western medicine with the best in complementary therapeutic modalities. My approach to health care involves thoughtful research, intuition and good judgment to provide safe and effective recommendations and therapies. Most importantly, it is patient-centered. This means I am committed to spending the time required to get to know the patient, and that the patient's role in the healing process is vital, not passive. We work as partners to nurture and empower the healer within both of us.

Integrative medicine calls on all aspects of a person's being--mind, body and spirit, to facilitate the healing process and to promote balance in one's life. To achieve this goal I work to understand the patient within the context of the relationships, events and beliefs that shape her life. I strive to optimize the patient's innate ability to heal, and to honor the healing process as one that is unique to each individual.

Hippocrates said that the role of the physician is to "cure sometimes, heal often, and support always." As a practitioner of integrative medicine I understand that where a physical cure proves elusive, healing at some level remains possible. Integrative medicine employs the tools of the ancient healer--compassion, intuition, healer as teacher, and remains grounded in sound scientific principles. My training equips me to navigate the world of complementary therapies and to judge how such therapies might best augment, or complement, an individual's health care regimen. In other words, I am skilled in family practice, and I am also qualified to provide appropriate recommendations and guidance in areas such as:

v Optimal wellness and prevention

v Graceful aging

v Chronic health issues

v Nutrition

v Vitamins/supplements

v Herbs

v Bio-identical hormone therapy

v Physical activity

v Manual medicine (e.g. massage, manipulation)

v Mind-body medicine

v Energy medicine

v Spirituality

v Traditional healing systems (e.g. traditional Chinese medicine)

As Andrew Weil, M.D. is fond of saying, "Integrative medicine is just good medicine." My goal is to provide the best health care possible for the individual.

Work Hours and Fee Schedule

I offer a free 15 minute get acquainted visit. This provides an opportunity for you to become familiar with my practice, and how my approach to integrative medicine might serve to address your concerns and meet your goals.

Partners in Healing is a consultation practice. Clients will need to have their own primary care provider.

A client may self refer. Referrals from a health care provider are also welcome. This type of medicine lends itself nicely to a collaborative approach to health care.

An initial appointment is two hours, and a follow up appointment runs from 60-90 minutes. A commitment to one follow up appointment is necessary to provide the time for discussion of the treatment plan. Please call for appointment availabilty.

Ideally, patient history forms will be filled out prior to the appointment, and pertinent past records will be available for review. Please come to the appointment in clothing that fits loosely, and with any medications, herbs, vitamins, or supplements you are currently taking, or wish to discuss.

At this time insurance is not accepted. However, I will provide the paperwork you need to request reimbursement from your insurance company. I encourage you to make inquiries with your insurance company. Some organizations have partial or complete reimbursement policies. In addition, this is a consumer driven movement. The more they hear from you, the more they take notice.

Young Living Essential Oils is a company I have long trusted to produce high quality, grade A therapeutic essential oils. They now carry an excellent antioxidant-rich juice supplement called NingXia Red juice. I am pleased to distribute their oils, nutritional foods, and body care products. I would need to consider their other supplements on a case by case basis, and access to their products via my website does not constitute an endorsement.
